VOL. 3 - NO. 1 July 06

Welcome to the fourth edition of the Roger Williams newsletter, KEY NOTES - and first for the year 2006. It is always my pleasure to bring you up-to-date on the career of this tremendously talented performer.

------Pauline Vang

JIMMY CARTER'S REQUEST : Roger has been busy the beginning of this year working on various projects. On January 11 President Jimmy Carter gave a speech at UCLA, followed by a session of questions and answers. President Carter personally asked Roger to play for this occasion.

DR. ROBERT A. SCHULLER'S INVITATION: On January 22 Dr. Robert A Schuller was installed as Senior Pastor of the Crystal Cathedral. Even though he did not play for the occasion, Roger was an invited guest in attendance for the occasion.

BUSY MARCH: March was an especially busy month. During its annual spring pledge drive, PBS aired a special called MOMENTS TO REMEMBER, taped in Thousand Oaks, CA. , which featured Roger Williams along with several other 50s recording artists. Roger played an extended version of AUTUMN LEAVES and gave a little talk, as well. Those pledging $120 were given an extra tape not shown on television, on which Roger also played BORN FREE.

LAS VEGAS: KLVX, the PBS station in Las Vegas, went a step further. They had Roger fly in on March 20 to do their station breaks for pledges, along with Las Vegas DJ Duke Morgan. Roger brought along his Limited Edition Special Gold Steinway piano to play requests for people pledging $120. During the course of the program he played three four-song segments - and it was a tremendous success. KLVX added an extra perk for those pledging $120. They gave away pairs of tickets for Roger’s upcoming engagement March 24-26 at the Suncoast Hotel & Casino’s Showroom.

HARRAH'S: As though his schedule wasn’t full enough, he was asked by singer Clint Holmes to guest on a show he was taping at Harrah’s on March 22 & 23. This show - also for PBS - will air in August around the country during their summer pledge drive. So, be on the lookout for this during the first two weeks of August.

SUNCOAST: Needless to say, Roger’s 3-day engagement (March 24-26) at the Suncoast was highly successful. He played in their 500-seat Suncoast Showroom and had a full house every night. Duke Morgan was in the audience one night and Tom Tipton, noted singer from the Crystal Cathedral’s Hour of Power, made a special trip in from Minneapolis for this engagement. CONCORDIA COLLEGE: On May 20 Roger appeared at Concordia College in Irvine, Calif. as part of the school’s annual event to raise money for scholarships. The event included dinner and an auction. Roger played two numbers and then was awarded the college’s Life Achievement Award in the shape of an eagle. Roger is the third recipient of this award - the second award going to Pat Boone last year.
